Focus On Learning Writing

Teachers at Focus On Learning Center believe that all students can learn to write once they have acquired the motivation, background, and necessary writing skills.  Each student’s writing program is individualized to accommodate his/her interests, learning style, and goals.
Our goal is to teach students, elementary through college, effective communication in written form.

Skilled writers
  •  Organize their thoughts clearly.
  •  Use appropriate grammar and syntax.
  •  Use standard spelling.
  •  Revise and edit their writing.
  •  Meet a variety of expectations (short answers, essays, term papers,
     poetry, and short stories).

Each student is paired with an experienced writing teacher who understands the writing process and has a positive attitude toward writing.  We model a variety of styles and allow time for creative writing.  We provide continuous feedback and teach students editing and correction strategies.

  •  Your student may be pre-tested using norm-referenced, standardized
tests such as the Woodcock-Johnson III, the Wrat-3 Spelling Test,
      and informal writing samples.

  •  Your student will work with an experienced writing teacher to develop
an individualized writing program, and together they will set clear
     goals.

  •  The teacher will keep you updated and apprized of progress.

•   Re-testing will occur at pre-agreed periods.

We strive to develop a rapport with your student and fostering the confidence and motivation that are essential for becoming  a good writer.
